What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is all about helping people engage in the activities that matter most to them:

  • the things they want to do (like play with friends!),
  • need to do (like getting dressed for school),
  • and have to do (like completing homework) in their daily lives.

When I work with children and families, we start by figuring out together what's going well and where you'd like to see some growth. Maybe your child struggles with getting ready in the morning, or they have big feelings about certain textures, or they're having trouble keeping up with friends on the playground. Whatever it is, we tackle it as a team.

Then we collaborate - you, your child, and me - to find practical, joyful solutions that actually work for your family. I'm not going to give you strategies that require an hour of prep time or special equipment you can't find in rural Saskatchewan. We work with what you have and build from there.

And here's the best part: for kids, ALL of this happens through play! Because that's how children learn best, and honestly, it's way more fun for everyone involved.

Being able to do what we have to, want to, and need to do are the simple joys in life.

Occupational Therapy That Celebrates Your Child

We focus on what your child CAN do while gently supporting areas where they need a little extra help. Through play-based therapy, we work on the skills that matter most for daily life - and we have fun doing it!

Every session starts with meeting your child where they are that day. Some days we're ready for big challenges, other days we need to start smaller. That's perfectly normal and exactly how growth works - it's not linear, and that's okay.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does Assessment Look Like?

  • Our OTs will ask you and your child a variety of questions based on their age and development. They will take some time to build rapport with you and your child, and incorporate a combination of play based and/or standardized assessments. The assessment will be largely centered around your answers to the initial intake form.
